Denmark to boost critical infrastructure defense

Denmark is set to develop a national strategy focusing on the resilience of critical entities, Torsten Schack Pedersen, the Minister for Civil Protection, announced. A survey by the energy sector organization, Green Power Denmark, indicated increased security expenditures among 70% of its members within the last year, due to a serious and complex threat landscape in Europe. The investments are mainly in IT security, following a cyber attack on 22 energy companies in spring 2023 as well as physical security improvements of 45% of the members, including around transformer stations and renewable energy sites. Implementing two EU directives is aimed at strengthening both cyber and physical security in Denmark. As part of this, risk assessments will be conducted to identify critical entities across sectors. The timeline for the national strategy’s completion remains unspecified.
