As a private individual, citizen, and editor-in-chief, this is a case of incredibly poor judgment on my part, writes Marchen Neel Gjertsen. (Archive photo). Photo: Ernst Van Norde/Ritzau Scanpix
Editor apologizes for contested exam help
Marchen Neel Gjertsen, Chief Editor of Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, has apologized for poor judgment after admitting to helping a friend with a substantial academic assignment. She initially responded to the backlash on social media, claiming it is acceptable to ‘help friends’. However, her stance changed as she expressed regret in her own newspaper, refusing to ‘explain, minimize or defend’ the issue. Her aid was openly criticized by both Stinne Hørup Hansen of the University of Southern Denmark and lecturer Stefan Kirkegaard Sløk-Madsen from CBS, condemning it as ‘cheating’ and ‘nepotism’. Gjertsen has declined to comment further on the matter.
