Limfjord project’s CO2 emissions soar

The construction of a new fixed connection over the Limfjord in Denmark is expected to be much more detrimental to the climate than previously estimated. The Road Directorate has revised the CO2 emissions projection for the bridge and tunnel project up to 480,000 tons, from an earlier forecast of 263,000 tons, marking an increase of 83 percent. Critics, including Per Clausen, Aalborg’s councilor for climate and environment, argue that the project should be stopped due to repeated evidence of increasing environmental burdens. The Citizen’s Movement against a Motorway on the Egholm Line suggests that the project, decided upon in 2014 based on a 2011 report, no longer aligns with current values and requires reassessment. Despite the dramatic increase in the CO2 forecast using a new, more accurate tool, the Transport Minister intends to proceed with the project’s legislative process as planned.
