Swedish prosecutor seeks conviction for Rasmus Paludan
Swedish prosecutors argue that while freedom of speech is valued in Sweden, there are boundaries, and one must not disparage others. They are pursuing a conviction against Rasmus Paludan, the Danish party founder, for incitement against an ethnic group and insult based on statements about Muslims. The trial is taking place in Malmö, where prosecutor Adrien Combier-Hogg argued that protecting vulnerable groups is essential to prevent polarization like in the 1930s. Paludan, participating via video link, interrupted the prosecutor but was asked to hold his comments. Statements made in Malmö in April and September 2022 are the basis for the charges. Paludan had contended in the elections for the Swedish parliament and previously in Denmark but failed to secure enough votes.
