Police monitor roads as schools reopen

As schools reopen, the majority of Danish police districts are implementing focused traffic inspections during weeks 32, 33, and 34, according to a press release from the National Police. Søren Blomgren Wind-Hansen, a police commissioner from Fyns Police, states that this annual traffic control tradition aims to increase safety for children traveling to school. Many drivers are stopped yearly for speeding, neglecting to wear seatbelts, or not observing school-related traffic signs. The police also watch over the children who are new to navigating traffic. Additionally, they will employ manual checks and Automatic Traffic Control to address traffic offenses, particularly targeting speeding, use of seatbelts, school patrol cooperation, and correct parental parking during drop-off. In collaboration with the Council for Safe Traffic, parents are encouraged to practice the school route and to wear helmets when cycling, as a model for their children.
