Senior donates 1.4M for stock exchange rebuild

An elderly man from Southern Zealand donated 1.4 million DKK to Dansk Erhverv for the reconstruction of the Børsen, marking one year since the iconic building was engulfed in flames. Director Brian Mikkelsen shared the individual’s gesture, which contributes to a costly renovation of Denmark’s first and most protected building, with a budget in the billion range. While insurance companies are mainly financing the reconstruction, the public showed interest in contributing, though smaller donations were returned due to sufficient funding. Special pine trees from Gotland and other regions are needed for the restoration, echoing the original construction from 1623. Half the building remains intact, including Mikkelsen’s office set for occupation by December 2025. The complete restoration of Børsen is expected to finish in 2029, with a focus on enhanced fire safety to preserve the site for centuries.
