Midtjylland Region resumes review of 1059 cases
The Midtjylland Region is resuming the review of cases for patients who may have experienced incorrect treatment at the Regionspsykiatrien in Randers. Previously, after reviewing 555 records and finding errors in about half, the region intended to stop the review and advised all 1614 affected patients to file complaints and seek compensation. However, criticism from Better Psychiatry and a request from Health Minister Sophie Løhde for the Health Authority to intervene led to a reinstatement of the review process. The region’s chief medical officer, Thomas Larsen, stated that their initial intent to change their approach had caused more concerns than clarity. The review was initiated when a senior physician at Regionspsykiatrien was suspended last February and later fired, with several senior staff members also leaving. A patient compensation case concluded that a young patient’s suicide could have been prevented with proper treatment.
