Danish evacuation list grows amid Lebanon tensions

The number of Danish citizens on the evacuation list for Lebanon has surged from 420 to 770 within a week, according to the Danish Foreign Ministry. This increase occurs after Israel’s warning of potential war with Hezbollah and follows an attack that killed 12 on a football field in the Golan Heights on July 27, which Israel attributes to Hezbollah, though the group denies involvement. Tensions further escalated after an Israeli airstrike in Beirut killed Hezbollah’s military leader, Fuad Shukr. The registry’s growth is not a precise representation of how many Danes are currently in Lebanon, as registration is voluntary. The ‘Danskerlisten’ helps the ministry reach out to nationals in case of emergencies. Other countries have reacted too; for instance, Sweden temporarily closed its embassy due to the deteriorating security situation, but Denmark has no current plans to close its embassy in Beirut.
