Odense school parents urge for action

Parents from all 30 public schools in Odense Municipality have united to criticize the municipality and express their concern in a letter following violent incidents at Agedrup School, including threats with a knife. They fear that the discussion about children’s well-being and school culture will cease after media attention fades. Parents argue that the problem is broader than individual schools and could arise anywhere. The municipality is considering moving students who harm others to different educational settings, but parents believe this approach misses the opportunity to prevent and address improper student behavior effectively. Instead, they demand more resources for prevention in public schools, as current funds are limited after a reallocation of 12 million kroner from public to special schools budgets last year. Parents are calling on politicians to find more money to strengthen public schools and preventive measures.
