
Nearly 1 in 4 in capital region of Denmark are immigrants
A new report by Statistics Denmark shows that 23% of residents in the Capital Region of Denmark are immigrants or descendants, significantly higher than in other regions, where the figure ranges between 10 to 14 percent. The lowest percentage is in the North Denmark Region. Morsø, Jammerbugt, Læsø, and Rebild municipalities have the smallest share at 7%. There are about 952,000 immigrants and descendants in Denmark, making up 16% of the population. Immigrants are those born abroad without Danish citizen parents, while descendants are born in Denmark to non-Danish citizen parents. Turkey, Poland, and Romania are the top three countries of origin for immigrants in Denmark, with Turkey being the largest at 66,693. Regional differences are notable, with Ukrainians predominating in North and Central Jutland, while Syrians and Iranians in Aarhus, Pakistanis and Indians around the capital, Vietnamese in Hjørring and Svendborg, and Chinese in Lyngby-Taarbæk.
