Aarhus greenlights employee blacklist

The Danish Data Protection Agency has approved Aarhus municipality’s creation of a reference register for employees dismissed for serious offenses, according to their decision sent to Ritzau. The register aims to prevent rehiring dismissed individuals after a case involving a former care worker accused of violence and sexual assault who was rehired in other municipal care homes despite being dismissed. Care home managers in Aarhus will now check this register when hiring new staff. The register will record significant work-related breaches, particularly abuse of vulnerable citizens, and will retain information for five years, except in cases of severe violations where a longer period may be considered. The municipality anticipates that 5-10 employees will be added to the register annually. The accused former care worker denies the allegations, with a verdict expected in June.
