Joe Biden withdraws from presidential race

President Joe Biden has announced he will not seek re-election in November, opting instead to focus on his duties for the remainder of his term. He endorses Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate and plans to address the nation next week. Biden, facing increasing pressure since a TV debate with Donald Trump on June 27, is the first incumbent since 1968 not to run for re-election, despite being eligible. Multiple Democratic senators and over 30 House members urged the 81-year-old president to cease his campaign. Former President Obama and former House Speaker Pelosi also expressed doubts about Biden’s chances. Senator Chuck Schumer praises Biden’s decision as a demonstration of true patriotism. Meanwhile, Donald Trump claims Harris will be easier to defeat than Biden and labels Biden as the worst president in White House history.
