Join hedgehog counting event saturday

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) invites Danes to participate in the second annual national hedgehog counting day on Saturday, August 10th. The event, in collaboration with hedgehog researcher Dr. Hedgehog, a.k.a. Sophie Lund Rasmussen, aims to determine whether hedgehogs are declining in Denmark. Dr. Rasmussen, based on years of research, suspects a decline but lacks data to document it. She notes that hedgehogs face dangers such as garden equipment injuries, dog attacks, and habitat loss. Last year about 15,000 volunteers recorded 33,500 hedgehogs, covering 15% of Denmark’s area. Dr. Rasmussen hopes for more coverage this year. Participants can report sightings or lack thereof online, aiding researchers in understanding hedgehog populations and risks.
