Ground Beef Linked to Salmonella

Danish authorities have identified ground beef from England as the cause of a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 51 people in the past two months. Fødevarestyrelsen, Statens Serum Institut, and DTU Food Institute, alongside Hilton Foods, the Danish importer, have conducted an investigation which highlighted the contaminated beef. Hilton Foods has recalled several batches sold in various stores since March 19. Consumers are urged to either throw away the beef or return it if purchased recently. The patients, aged 0 to 83, are spread across Denmark, with most in the Capital Region. To prevent salmonella, a bacterial infection marked by diarrhea and discomfort, health officials advise thorough hand-washing, avoiding raw meat tasting, keeping it separate from other food, and cooking it thoroughly.
