- I do not acknowledge the premise that there are jobs that are going away. There are jobs that are, you could say, changing to other tasks, and that will be there every single day in the Danish workforce, says Jacob Jensen. (Archive photo). Photo: Thomas Traasdahl/Ritzau Scanpix
Minister disputes Govt’s farm job loss figures
Denmark’s Food Minister, Jacob Jensen, does not accept the government’s prediction that 3,150 agricultural jobs will be lost by 2035 due to a new CO2 tax. Jensen argues that jobs will not be eliminated but will transition to different tasks and that such changes are common in the workforce. He refers to the Finance Ministry’s calculations as merely technical and not necessarily reflective of reality. Moreover, Jensen suggests that new jobs will emerge as a result of reforestation efforts accompanying the new policy, with an estimated net job loss of 1,950 positions, equating to three percent of the agricultural workforce.
