Danish Donations to Ukraine Plummet

Interest in donating to Ukraine has significantly declined among Danes since the first year of the conflict. In 2022, when Russia commenced its attack on Ukraine, donations reached nearly 1.4 billion DKK, but dropped to 166 million DKK the following year. Kenneth Kamp Butzbach of Isobro, representing 235 charities, acknowledges such waning interest as common in prolonged crises. He notes that while initial donations surge amid shock, focus can fade over time as media coverage diminishes. Despite the decline, the need for aid persists as the war continues, he says. Butzbach remarks the giving spirit he’s seen is unprecedented, comparing it to the 340 million DKK raised after the 2004 tsunami. The war’s relatability to Danes and the arrival of Ukrainians in Denmark are cited as factors for the initial outpouring of support.
