Denmark aims to boost tourism sector

Denmark is set to implement a new tourism strategy aimed at increasing tourist spending to 200 billion DKK by 2030, as revealed by Danish minister Morten Dahlin. The previous year, tourism generated 164 billion DKK. The government plans to allocate 44 million DKK to VisitDenmark for off-season international marketing efforts. The strategy aims to position Denmark within the top three Nordic countries for overall tourist satisfaction by 2030, capitalizing on the demand for nature experiences and Danish gastronomy. Furthermore, 10 million DKK will be invested from 2024 to 2027 in a campaign to encourage domestic travel. The strategy also seeks to disperse tourism geographically and outside the peak months of July and August, avoiding issues of overtourism seen in other European locations. Promoting sustainable, balanced tourism, increasing local support through job creation, and dedicating 50 million DKK annually from 2025 to 2028 for tourism initiatives are also integral to the plan.
