Plans to double medicine exports agreed
Denmark aims to double its export of pharma products by 2030 with a projected target of 350 billion Danish kroner, as announced in two political agreements. In 2023, exports in this area, which primarily include medicines and medical equipment, accounted for nearly 20% of Denmark’s total goods export, led by pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk with exports over 100 billion kroner. The parties to the agreement—including the government and several political parties—anticipate that this move will create new chapters in Denmark’s growth and export saga, as stated by Business Minister Morten Bødskov. The agreements feature measures such as a ‘red carpet’ for manufacturing companies to reduce bureaucratic hurdles, a boon for Danish competitiveness. Domestic production jobs are expected to grow, benefiting patients according to Health Minister Sophie Løhde. Industry players like the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) and Danish Chamber of Commerce welcomed the agreements, highlighting Europe’s competitive edge in life sciences.
