Denmark’s parallel societies decrease to eight

The Danish Social and Housing Ministry’s annual list shows a decrease in parallel societies in housing areas from twelve to eight, with no new entries. Housing Minister Sophie Hæstorp Andersen credits this to effective interventions, noting the absence of new areas as a positive sign. Four areas – Vejleåparken, Motalavej, Nørager/Søstjernevej, and Skovgårdsparken – have been removed from the list for not meeting criteria related to employment, education, and income levels. The number of designated vulnerable housing areas also fell from nineteen to twelve. BL – Danmarks Almene Boliger acknowledges the success is due to substantial real-world efforts. The initiative began in 2010 with a political package aiming to integrate ‘ghetto’ areas back into society.
