Russian fund backs Danish influence ops
The Moscow-based Pravfond, funded by Russia, is pouring millions into campaigns aiming to influence Denmark and other EU countries; this is according to documents reviewed by Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) and European media. Mark Galeotti, a Russian security expert, assessed the documentation for DR, illustrating Russia’s objective to sow discord in the West. Last year, the fund received about 18 million kroner, mostly from the Russian state. Pravfond has financed projects in Denmark, including one by a Russian-background woman, and an online media outlet, EuroMore, that publishes content about Ukraine, Russophobia, and the Russian language. Galeotti calls this ‘political warfare’, noting increased Russian influence activities lately. DR’s outreach to Pravfond and the overseeing Russian Foreign Ministry went unanswered.
