Man with bread knife targeted Iranian ambassador
In the fall of 2022, an Iranian man with a bread knife intruded into Iran’s embassy in Copenhagen, intending to scare Ambassador Afsaneh Nabdipour. During his court hearing at the Østre Landsret, the man, aged 34, claimed he wanted to cut down the Iranian flag and only sought to frighten the ambassador, not harm her. The incident escalated when the man damaged four cars and some windows with the knife and a gardening shovel. He cited Iran’s role in the death of Masha Amini and the subsequent unrest in Iran as a driving force for his aggression and a contributing factor to his mental illness. His attempt to assault the ambassador prompted criticism from Iran’s foreign minister towards Danish police for inadequate protection. The man has appealed his initial judgment, seeking acquittal from charges of attempted violent assault.
