Calm Urged Amid Cyberattack Wave

The Center for Cyber Security in Denmark urges calm following a series of DDoS cyberattacks targeting municipal websites. Deputy Director Mark Fiedel emphasized that these overloading attacks rarely cause serious damage since the websites do not carry critical information. Although disruptive and designed for attention, they are less concerning than other attempts by criminals and states to target Danish authorities and companies, he says. Affected cities include Thisted, Odense, Horsens, Helsingør, Vejle, and Esbjerg. The security authority raised the threat level regarding cyperactivism from medium to high in January, indicating a probability that Danish entities will be targeted by cyberattacks within two years. This escalation is believed to be a response to pro-Russian groups’ improved capabilities and retaliation for Denmark’s support of Ukraine. According to reports TV 2, the Russian hacker group NoName057 claims responsibility, vowing to continue attacks as long as Denmark supports Ukraine.
