Employment steadily rises in Denmark
Despite economists’ warnings that the rise in employment might not last, the number of wage earners in Denmark continued to increase, adding 1,800 in July according to Statistics Denmark, reaching 3,026,100 workers. This figure represents a record high, with an increase of 31,100 compared to the previous year, predominantly in the private sector but with the public sector accounting for 1,500 of the 1,800 new jobs in July. Tore Stramer, Chief Economist at Dansk Erhverv, suggests that the era of employment records may be coming to an end. Dansk Erhverv predicts employment to rise by 8,000 by the end of the year but to decrease by 10,000 next year. However, Steen Nielsen, Vice Director at Dansk Industri, remains more optimistic, citing persistently high demand for workers and a current unemployment rate below three percent.
