Salling Group charged for tobacco display
The Danish Consumer Ombudsman has filed a police complaint against Salling Group for failing to sufficiently conceal tobacco products. According to a press release, the Ombudsman observed 15 instances where the plastic cover in front of tobacco goods was left open for extended periods, a violation of the law. The Tobacco Advertising Act aims to protect particularly children and youth from being tempted by prohibiting the display of tobacco products. Non-specialized stores are only allowed to display tobacco products upon customer request. Salling Group admits the incidents were errors due to negligence, expressing regret and initiating a campaign to prevent such mistakes, including specific communication and staff training.
