Locals to sue state over new Limfjord connection
Local citizens in North Jutland are protesting a third Limfjord connection that crosses Egholm island near Aalborg, raising over 400,000 DKK for a lawsuit against the state. A movement called “Citizen Movement Against a Motorway on the Egholm Line” has emerged. Spokesperson Louise Faber is uplifted by the community support against the motorway. Passed in May by a majority in Parliament, the project includes a four-lane motorway stretching 20 kilometers to improve traffic. Critics, including green organizations and professionals, oppose it due to its environmental impact and the threat to the local otter population. The Transport Minister argues that a new 20-hectare otter habitat will compensate for disturbance. However, Transport Economist Professor Mogens Fosgerau rates the project poorly, and locals, hoping to halt it through the lawsuit, remain unsatisfied.
