Søren Gade aims for protocol for MPs’ deaths

Søren Gade, the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, intends to create a guide for handling the death of parliament members, which will be used in organizing meetings during such times. This initiative follows the deaths of two MPs during his term, including Social Democrat Mette Gjerskov and Conservative leader Søren Pape Poulsen. The guide will need formal approval from the Parliamentary Presidium. In a recent event, a memorial service for Pape was held, including a moment of silence and a song in the Folketing’s chamber, which was not the case for Gjerskov’s commemoration. Gade clarified that the decision to sing was inspired by Pape’s funeral and unrelated to Gjerskov’s non-leadership role. Gade had previously commemorated Pape’s friendly and non-pretentious nature in the parliament.
