Boeing workers extend strike over pay

Boeing machinists in Seattle have refused the latest wage proposal, persisting with a strike that’s been active for over a month. Reuters reported that 64% of the IAM union’s 30,000 members voted no to the offer, which included a 35% salary increase over four years. It’s the second rejection, following a 95% vote against a previous 25% raise proposal that triggered the strike. Boeing withdrew a 30% raise offer on October 8. These labor disputes have contributed to a $6.2 billion loss for Boeing in the third quarter of 2024. With ongoing financial challenges, Boeing has announced upcoming layoffs affecting 10% of its workforce, approximately 17,000 employees. Earlier in the year, safety concerns were raised regarding Boeing’s 737 Max 9 aircraft.
