AI-generated child abuse images penalized like real photos
The Western High Court has significantly increased the sentence of a man who produced child abuse material using artificial intelligence. The initial ruling from Randers Court in January sentenced him to one year and three months, with only three months to be served unconditionally. However, the High Court altered this to an unconditional sentence of one year and six months. This case is among the first involving AI-generated abuse material. The prosecutor, Emil Stenbygaard, emphasized the seriousness due to the large volume of images and the financial gain from their distribution. Europol reports international police actions identifying 273 buyers. The man was convicted of creating 36,209 images, distributed via a subscription service netting him 25,000 kroner. The case clarifies legal standings on AI-generated abuse material.
