IMF forecasts modest global economic growth
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts modest growth for the global economy in the next two years, with a steady projection for 2024 at 3.2% and a slight increase to 3.3% in 2025. Danish Industry’s Chief Economist, Allan Sørensen, notes particularly low growth in major European markets such as the UK, Germany, and the eurozone, posing challenges for Danish exporters. However, inflation is expected to decrease from 4.6% last year to 2.7% in 2024 and 2.1% in 2025, representing a positive aspect of the forecast. Still, there remains a risk of persistent high inflation and interest rates. Sørensen also mentions that growth is not evenly distributed globally, with robust growth in the USA but difficulties in the eurozone. Growth in several Asian countries, including raised forecasts for China, is expected to be strong. IMF’s global economic projections are based on varying methods from different countries.
