New weight loss drug to cost DKK 2,237 monthly
Severely overweight individuals in Denmark will soon have access to Mounjaro, a new medication from Eli Lilly. Without subsidy, it will cost DKK 2,237 per month. The treatment, also approved for type 2 diabetes in Europe since 2022, enters the Danish market after a phased launch in other European countries. Eli Lilly’s managing director in the Nordics, Daniel Lucas, hopes to work with authorities on future subsidy eligibility. The company’s focus is on fighting severe obesity rather than competing with local rival Novo Nordisk. Mounjaro is available by prescription for individuals with a BMI over 30 or those with a BMI between 27 to 30 with additional weight-related health risks.
