Crackdown on suspected Ozempic fraud

Capital Region of Denmark plans to file police reports against 20 citizens who redeemed prescriptions for more than three years’ supply of the diabetes medication Ozempic in 2023. Additionally, 132 cases of conspicuous medication consumption are under investigation. Region Zealand and Central Denmark Region also announce intentions to report three and six citizens, respectively, for excessive claims, alongside reviewing 34 and 39 cases each. Total subsidies amount to millions of kroner. The regions emphasize the medication should be reserved for those with diabetes and that fraud undermines societal trust in the healthcare subsidy system. The type 2 diabetes patients in question have bypassed requirements for receiving public funding for the costly medication. Region South Denmark is also evaluating potential similar incidents.
