Mercado appointed auditor during chair’s maternity leave
Mai Mercado from the Conservative People’s Party is set to take over as state auditor while her party colleague, Mette Abildgaard, goes on maternity leave. The decision is highlighted by the Deputy Chairman Leif Lahn Jensen on the State Auditors’ website, emphasizing the strength of having politicians from six different parties with diverse perspectives. Mercado’s role begins on August 26, and it’s not yet known how long she will substitute Abildgaard. The role of state auditors is to ensure that public funds are used according to the decisions made by Folketinget and that the funds are managed efficiently. Abildgaard announced her pregnancy in the spring on Facebook, and it’s her third child expected in late summer. Mai Mercado has previous experience as a state auditor from October 2020 to March 2021.
