Southern Denmark reports suspected Ozempic fraud

Region Syddanmark has reported three citizens to the police under suspicion of Ozempic prescription fraud after they collectively claimed medication subsidies totaling over half a million Danish kroner. These individuals redeemed prescriptions equivalent to more than a three-year maximum consumption within a single year, which is concerning since the drug only has a shelf life of three years. The chairman of the regional council, Bo Libergren, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into any illegal activities and stated that diabetes medication should only go to genuine patients, not be used for fraudulent activities or reselling. The region also asked the Danish Patient Safety Authority to review 44 cases where patients were prescribed more than one and a half years’ worth of Ozempic within one year. In total, the five regions in Denmark are set to report 33 citizens spread across the country for similar suspicions.
