Today’s news / Ukraine-US mineral deal agreement
After the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, last week rejected the American President Donald Trump's demand that Ukraine pay the US staggering sums of money in return for American support during the three-year war, Trump launched several verbal attacks on Zelensky, whom he among other things called a "dictator". Ukraine-US mineral deal agreement

Ukraine has reached an agreement on minerals with the US, confirmed by President Zelensky’s office. The deal may be signed during Zelensky’s expected visit to Washington D.C. on Friday, where he will meet President Trump. The US has eliminated objectionable parts of the deal for Ukraine, including a $500 billion claim on Ukraine’s natural resources. A fund will be created where Ukraine will contribute 50% of its earnings from resources like minerals and oil, which will be used for Ukrainian projects. Details like the US share of the fund will be determined in future agreements. The arrangement is part of a larger strategy between the two nations, as mentioned by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Olga Stefanishyna. The US has been supporting Ukraine with aid and military supplies, with Trump citing a $300 billion contribution and Zelensky stating $67 billion in weapons and $31.5 billion in direct aid.
