Mona Juul: Anti-semitic hate crimes to block citizenship
The Conservative Party in Denmark, led by Mona Juul, is proposing to make it nearly impossible to gain Danish citizenship for those convicted of endorsing terrorism or committing hate crimes against Jews. Juul suggests barring the possibility of permanent residence for anyone sentenced to more than 60 days of unconditional imprisonment, a prerequisite for Danish citizenship. The Conservatives believe that the majority of antisemitism originates from Middle Eastern immigration, based on their observations, though specific examples were not provided. This proposal arises amid the anniversary of Hamas’ attacks in Israel and subsequent conflicts in Gaza, which have sparked 59 charges related to ‘Judaism’ and an increase in antisemitic incidents in Denmark from nine in 2022 to 121 reported incidents in 2023.
