PM not to testify in assault case

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will not testify in a court case where a 39-year-old Polish man is accused of assaulting her. Both the prosecution and the defense have chosen not to call her as a witness, with special prosecutor Anders Larsson citing sufficient evidence without her testimony. The incident occurred on June 7th at Copenhagen’s Kultorvet square where Frederiksen was allegedly struck on the shoulder. The man is charged under a clause addressing violence against officials, with a potential aggravating factor of the assault being linked to the victim’s public statements. The prosecution seeks a prison sentence and a six-year entry ban for the defendant, who denies the allegations. The case also involves charges of theft and indecency by the Polish man and is scheduled for hearing on August 6th and 7th.
