Bestseller owner wants to buy Midtjylland Airport

Nine municipalities in Midtjylland have conditionally agreed to sell Midtjyllands Lufthavn to the investment company Heartland for 22.55 million kroner. Heartland, owned by Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povlsen, must maintain the domestic route between Karup and Copenhagen as long as it remains profitable. Midtjyllands Lufthavn has struggled financially, with previous operator Danish Air Transport ceasing operations in August 2023, and AIS Airlines reducing flights in April 2024. Viborg’s mayor, Ulrik Wilbek, welcomes the agreement, emphasizing its importance for Denmark and Heartland’s commitment to domestic flights and development potential. The sale also requires the airport to remain available for ambulance and military flights. Heartland believes an expanded route network would benefit Midtjylland and plans to collaborate with external operators.
