Authorities warn: Dunes at risk of collapse

Authorities are urging caution around dune areas after two landslides occurred on Sunday. North Jutland’s Emergency Services advised to walk carefully due to the recent collapses. Two German boys aged 9 and 12 were critically injured by a landslide in Nørre Vorupør on Sunday. The preliminary police investigation suggests the landslide happened while they were digging a hole in the dunes. Another ten-year-old boy was trapped in a clay pit on Mors but was released without serious injuries. South Jutland’s Fire Brigade warns of unstable dunes due to heavy rainfall, advising people to stick to paths in dune areas and keep children supervised. It is also advised to avoid staying under steep dunes, especially in areas affected by high tides, and not to dig in the dunes. Following the accidents, North Jutland Police highlighted these incidents and warned of sudden landslides, stressing the impossibility of predicting where similar events might occur.
