Aarhus Mayor Jacob Bundsgaard resigns unexpectedly

After 13 years in office, the Social Democrat Jacob Bundsgaard has decided to resign as the Mayor of Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city. Announcing his departure at a press conference in the city hall, Bundsgaard cited personal reasons for stepping down after 22 years as a council member. He mentioned the need for a career change to maintain his work energy, although he has no immediate job plans. His successor in the city’s leadership has not yet been announced, but Anders Winnerskjold is considered a favorite. Bundsgaard will step down on November 6, following the next council meeting. He is also stepping down from his position as the vice-chairman of the Local Government Denmark association (KL), necessitating a replacement there too. The Social Democrats will announce their new mayoral candidate on Thursday. Bundsgaard emphasized his decision was personal, not due to poll ratings or issues during his term.
