UK Preparing to Send Asylum Seekers to Rwanda
The British authorities have detained the first asylum seekers set to be sent to Rwanda within the next 9 to 11 weeks, the government announced. A released video by the Home Office shows officers entering homes and escorting individuals to a secure van in handcuffs. Over a week ago, Parliament passed a law enabling the deportation of asylum seekers who arrive in the UK illegally, according to the government’s perspective, to the East-African country, Rwanda. They will remain there while their asylum claims are processed. Human rights organizations and NGOs are protesting against the plan.
