Danish King plants apple tree in Swedish soil
The relationship between Sweden and Denmark was once again nurtured in the courtyard behind Stockholm’s Nordic Museum, this time both metaphorically and literally. King Frederik and Queen Mary planted a Danish apple tree, a ‘Yellow Gråsten’ considered Denmark’s national apple, in Swedish soil. After depositing a couple of shovelfuls of earth, King Frederik joked that it was enough work for now. However, amid laughter from the audience, Queen Mary pointed out there was still more soil to be added. The King continued digging with a smile for the press, and Queen Mary watered the soil following the planting.
