Ringsted gets new mayor amidst misconduct

Klaus Hansen of The Liberal Party of Denmark has been chosen as the new mayor of Ringsted following Henrik Hvidesten’s resignation due to inappropriate behavior. Hvidesten, also from The Liberal Party of Denmark, faced allegations of being extremely drunk and behaving inappropriately, specifically towards a female elected official at a municipal economy summit. After DR reported another incident of misconduct, Hvidesten stepped down, despite a previous vote of confidence. Parties supporting Hansen intend to implement measures to prevent future similar incidents and are considering a code of conduct. Mette Ahm-Petersen, the Social Democrat group leader, believes Hansen was unaware of the episodes and emphasizes the importance of a united council approach to handling such matters.
