Mink compensation bill lowered to 29.2 Billion DKK

After repeated increases, the estimated cost of compensation to Denmark’s mink farmers has been revised down from approximately 29.5 billion to 29.2 billion DKK. Jacob Jensen, the minister for food, agriculture and fisheries, states that his role is to ensure mink farmers receive their rightful compensation swiftly and is unconcerned with the size of the adjustment. The process is taking too long, but he is glad that more farmers are choosing the fast track option for quicker resolutions. The last compensation cases are expected to be completed by 2027. Meanwhile, the cost of processing the cases has risen due to the complexity of handling them. About 12.7 billion DKK has already been paid to 1,229 businesses linked to the mink industry. As of January 23, the authorities have received 943 applications for compensation from mink enterprises for the year 2020.
