Danish AI research to aid EU soldiers

Researchers at Aalborg University are set to assist European soldiers with better battlefield communication through artificial intelligence, backed by over 45 million kroner. The five-year project aims to make technology easier to use in high-pressure situations. Project leader Jesper Rindom Jensen explains that the research involves making the technology more robust, such as real-time translation between soldiers and local populations using mobile devices. The technology also intends to monitor conversations and media to identify defense-relevant events. Current limitations include unrecognized languages and noisy recordings, which the project seeks to address. The technology will combine components for sound capture, noise reduction, speech recognition, translation, and summarization of defense-related incidents. The project seeks to make Europe independent of the USA for such technology.
