Danish group to review UN agency for palestinians

The UN has appointed an independent group, including the Danish Institute for Human Rights, to evaluate the UNRWA after Israel accused 12 employees of participating in a Hamas attack. Led by former French Minister Catherine Colonna, the group will review UNRWA’s neutrality mechanisms and procedures, and suggest improvements. The investigation, requested by UNRWA’s chief and initiated by UN Secretary-General Guterres, begins on February 14 with a preliminary report due by the end of March. Meanwhile, at least 15 countries have suspended aid to UNRWA, with the US and Germany among them. The UNRWA operates in several regions including Gaza, where its assistance is most in demand.
