No well-being crisis for Danish youth
The Well-being Commission in Denmark concludes there is no crisis among children and young people’s well-being, despite some challenges. According to the commission, most Danish children and young people lead good lives. The truth lies between the extreme views of perfect well-being and a crisis, as previously suggested by Health Minister Sophie Løhde in 2023. The commission, led by chairman Rasmus Meyer, was established in August 2023 and has provided 35 recommendations for improving youth well-being. The report identifies social inequality and higher risks of poor well-being among children from homes with violence, conflicts, substance abuse, and illness, particularly affecting girls and young women more than boys. Economic Minister Stephanie Lose acknowledges that action is needed to address these challenges. The report also points to digitalization and changing parenting styles as factors and includes seven recommendations for parents to spark a public debate on parenting.
