Biden prioritizes democracy over title
U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of protecting American democracy over his presidential title in a speech from the Oval Office. He expressed that perfecting the union of states is a sacred task not about him but about the people, their families, and their future. Initially, Democrats planned to nominate Biden for reelection, aiming for another four-year term. However, that plan was disrupted when Biden faced difficulties during a debate with opponent Donald Trump, struggling with speech and seeming fatigued, which led to significant criticism. Subsequently, Biden announced he would not seek reelection and endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming November election. He described Harris as experienced, tough, and competent, having been an excellent partner and leader. While Democrats often criticize Trump for undermining American democracy, Biden called the U.S. an idea more powerful than any dictator, stressing that democracy is at stake in the November election.
