Denmark and Netherlands to send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
Denmark and the Netherlands are set to deliver 14 refurbished Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, announced by the Dutch Ministry of Defense according to Reuters. After months of testing by German weapons manufacturer Rheinmetall, the tanks are expected to be delivered by the end of the summer, although a specific date was not given. These tanks are set to enhance Ukraine’s battlefield capabilities with their high firepower, strong protection, and speed. Prior to delivery, the Ukrainian soldiers will be trained to use the tanks. The Leopard 2 tanks, not sourced from the defenses of the two funding countries, are considered highly effective and advanced. Additionally, Denmark has promised to re-purchase and donate at least 100 Leopard 1 tanks in cooperation with Germany and the Netherlands, with 30 already delivered to Ukraine earlier this year.
