9/11 suspects plead guilty for life sentence

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two co-conspirators, Walid bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hawasawi, have entered guilty pleas in exchange for life sentences to avoid the death penalty, according to the Pentagon. The specifics of these pretrial agreements are not currently public. These charges are related to their roles in the 9/11 attacks, which targeted the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. These cases have been long ongoing while the accused have been detained at Guantanamo Bay. Their guilty pleas involved conspiracy charges, as reported by The New York Times. This plea bargain has been shared with the families affected by 9/11, leading to divided opinions on the justice served. Mohammed was captured in Pakistan in 2003 and transferred to Guantanamo in 2006, and the other accomplices have been in U.S. custody since 2003.
