Denmark to get warships – details pending

There is a political ambition for a significant portion of warship production for the Danish navy to occur in Denmark, as outlined in a fleet plan presented by the Ministry of Defence. Details remain pending and will be clarified in early 2025 after NATO’s strength goals are known, with final decisions on procurement thereafter. Certain parties, like the Danish People’s Party, insist on domestic construction, while the Conservatives are indifferent about the location. 26 smaller vessels, including patrol and environmental ships, are agreed upon, costing approximately four billion kroner and funded by defense agreements. The plan is part of a larger investment, with 120 billion kroner allocated for defense enhancement until 2033, on top of an existing 200 billion. Troels Lund Poulsen mentioned exploring new financing for the fleet plan, costing a substantial amount.
